AGE GROUP QUALIFICATION EVENTS FOR TRIATHLON AND DUATHLON
To qualify for this event, athletes must supply a race result which meets the qualifying criteria and qualification evidence outlined below.
Qualification evidence
Athletes are required to submit performances providing the following information:
- Race name
- Race date
- Athlete finish time
- Winner of age-groups finishing time
- Working link to your age group’s online results (URL)
Specific Race Result criteria:
- Event must have been chip timed.
- Results must be in 5 age group bands.
- Races should be the equivalent of a Long Distance or Middle-Distance Triathlon with the swim in open water, the bike on tarmac and the run predominantly on paths.
- Long Distance results with a finishing percentage of 110% or less will be considered before Middle Distance results. Long Distance results with a percentage of 111% to 115% will be considered alongside middle-distance results.
- Results must have a finishing time which is within 115% of the winner of their age group. If an athlete is moving up an age group in 2025, they should use the time from the winner of the age group they are moving into.

- Results must have 200 finishers confirmed by the results, including DNF, DNS, DQ.
- Registrations can be edited by going to your BTF account, then dashboard, then Age Group Listing and clicking Edit. If Edit is not there you are not able to edit the registration.

- If an athlete improves their best performance before a registration deadline and would like to update the result, they can update the result by following the instructions found here and looking for “How do I change the race result I added to qualify for an WT/ET race.”
- Please Note: If you are moving up an age group in the championship year, then your qualification will be based on where your finishing time would have placed you in the age-group category you will be racing for in the year you do the qualifying race. Please see point 8.3 in the Terms and Conditions.
Time frame results can be used from and will be considered by:
- Results must be valid between the following dates: January 2023 to the final registration cut-off date.
- Athletes who have registered with a result from January 2025 onward will be considered from Q1 onwards.
- Athletes who have registered with a result from January 2023 onwards will be considered at Q2.

Specific Race Result criteria:
- Event must have been chip timed.
- Results must be in 5- or 10-year age bands. Note – 10-year age bands may disadvantage athletes as they will be compared to athletes who could potentially be 10 years younger than them.
- Results are not published in age bands will be accepted and considered at the third registration cut-off date.
- Races should be the equivalent of a Middle-Distance Duathlon or Triathlon with the bike on tarmac and the run predominantly on paths.
- Athletes who compete in WT or ET (World or European Championship) standard distance duathlons may use their result to try and qualify for this race but must finish within 120% of the winner of their age group’s time.
- Results must have a finishing time which is within 120% of the winner of your age group. If you are moving up an age group in the championship year, use the time from the winner of the age group you are moving into.

- There are no minimum number of competitors required in a race for it to be used as evidence, but the Team Manager must deem the result to be competitive regarding the number of competitors.
